Born in Las Vegas to a father of Portuguese & native American heritage and a mother of Mexican American decent, artist Arturo Silva lived most of his life in the Southwest until he accepted a photography position in Indianapolis, and moved to the Midwest. He has worked in Indianapolis for several years as an advertising photographer and an art & photography instructor. Art's passion is creating. He photographs, paints, draws, and sculpts in various media. For past exhibitions he has produced large 20x24 B/W photographic prints.

Art enjoys instructing young artists in the Indianapolis Public School District, the Lawrence Township Metropolitan School District, and the Hispanic Education Center. He has taught art & photography classes for the Indianapolis Art Center's Artreach program, and taught photographic workshops in local public schools for students entering the local Americanos juried photo exhibit at the Eiteljorg Museum. He also conducted photography workshops in Spanish for Hispanic students at local middle schools and high school, which culminated in a student photographic exhibit at the state capital as part of the Spirit & Place Festival.

Mr. Silva displayed his work as Artist in Residence at the Eiteljorg Museum as part of the Ansel Adams exhibit. He also exhibited artwork in a group show at the Photography Gallery in the Stutz building. He has had other exhibits in local coffee shops as well.

Art recently broadened his scope from some of the more traditional artistic media to computer-generated art, or in his words "virtual artwork, it only exists in electronic or digital form. Rather than a canvas containing the artwork or a sheet of photographic paper holding an image, you have a compact disk (CD) and soon to be (DVD) containing your completed work of art." According to Art, "With the digital technology available to us today there is a whole new world of artistic expression right at our fingertips and I want to tap into it. ...I will still enjoy teaching and creating in the more traditional ways, I'm not throwing that out the window at all." Silva's future plans include continuing to teach art & photography to area youth, and educating them in the use of current computer technology as a powerful tool that can be used to nurture and enhance artistic creativity, and contribute a positive change to the evolution of art as it moves into the ever changing future. Using computer technology, students' artwork can be conveyed in many different forms including electronic or digital media and can be viewed in that form by as little as one person or simultaneously by as many as the whole technological world. Art is currently working on a multimedia art project combining computer animation, with video production, digital photography, narration, and created music.
