Rosa María was born in Mexico City (Mexico) of Spanish parents. She is a Biology graduate from the National University of Mexico. For several years she taught General Biology and participated in laboratory research in Mexico City and Rochester, New York.

Rosa María became interested in drawing at an early age, and received tutoring from Souto and other Spanish artists then living in Mexico. Her first professional work as an artist was the illustration of a reference book on tropical trees that was sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

In 1972 she moved to San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and joined the Experimental Painting Workshop of the Institute of Fine Arts of this beautiful Mexican colonial city. The friendly but challenging environment of the workshop provided a significant impetus to her creativity. There she began her continuing exploration of form, color and texture, experimenting with media.. Since 1982 Rosa Maria makes her home in Indianapolis with her husband and two sons. Shortly after coming to this city, she joined the Indianapolis Art Center and the Center of Creative Arts (CCA) Gallery in Broad Ripple, where she has found friendship and encouragement.

Her work reflects a unique blend of the clean design and attention to detail of her early involvement with biological illustrations, the richness of color and brightness that one associates with her native country and Spanish heritage and the innovations of form and texture that spring from her vivacious imagination and continuous research. Since 1983 she has been working intensely with different printing methods. Currently most of her works are mixed media, monoprints and monotypes. She prints her work in her own studio.

Rosa María is a member of The Indianapolis Art Center, The Indiana Artist Club Inc, The Hoosier Salon, The Indiana Artists-Craftsmen, Inc, The Center for Creative Arts (CCA Gallery), The Indianapolis Museum of Art Accepted work in many juried exhibitions: The Whitewater Valley Annual Juried Competition.
